WHEN I AM FEELING LIKE A PICK-ME-UP, there’s a special little voice that always helps. “Yes, yes, pick me,” it says, in an elfin timbre. “Me…” “No–me!” It is the voice, or voices, of one of the little-used words being put up for adoption by Save The Words [dot] org, a project of Oxford University Press. Once you get past the opening screen, and the site loads, you come to a giant collage of words. Roll the white frame around a bit, put your cursor on a word inside the frame, and click. (You’ll hear all the words calling out while you try to choose; heart-breaking not to be able to adopt them all at once!) Enjoy–I know I did, which is one reason why I’m gaudiloquent.
