REGINA BRETT IS MANY THINGS: a breast-cancer survivor; a onetime single parent; one of 11 kids who shared a difficult childhood she has worked to make peace with; a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist for her commentary in The Plain Dealer, Ohio’s largest newspaper. And an author, of the popular book “God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life’s Little Detours,” just out in paperback (and I bought two extra copies to give away!). In short—she’s a master of reinvention. I was happy to finally “meet” Regina when I appeared on her weekly call-in show recently on WKSU, the Ohio NPR affiliate. The topic: reinventing yourself.
Two other guests who had started over were also on the program. One had left her career to work with animals, creating a non-profit rescue and shelter organization; the other chose to work with children, taking on leadership of a girls school; I shifted my life to be closer to nature, and my garden.
See the thread? Animals, kids, nature. Stuff that makes you feel better when you are around it. A good reason to make a change—to have more of things like that in our lives, no?
Listen to our May 18 edition of Regina’s weekly show (or any other episode!), or check out her book, a collection of inspirational essays and stories that sprung out of a popular column written when she turned 50. Speaking of age…Regina is funny (and is not 90 years old, despite internet rumors to that effect). Her inspirational show airs every Wednesdays at 7 to 8 PM Eastern, or can be had in podcast anytime.
