I garden (in addition to all the fabulous plants to know, work outdoors, etc reasons) because it makes me break out of my normal behavioral routines. I am a perfectionist, extremely organized, list-making plan freak. Yet, in the garden I’m up for anything. I improvise, poke around, move & split on the fly, rearrange beds, change paths, sit and stare and hatch brilliantly crazy ideas that somehow work out wonderfully. with the garden as my only audience, ever-forgiving and always growing, it sets me creatively free.

Welcome! I’m Margaret Roach, a leading garden writer for 25 years—at ‘Martha Stewart Living,’ ‘Newsday,’ and in three books. I host a public-radio podcast; I also lecture, plus hold tours at my 2.3-acre Hudson Valley (NY) Zone 5B garden, and always say no to chemicals and yes to great plants.
