I’m wondering if you or anyone else could suggest some fast growing flowering plants for our area? I’m really hoping to get some flowers happening by mid-July. Ideally, something to climb a porch and fence and a few things to clump together and hide the view under the porch. Pink, blue, white, purple preferably.
I’ve already put in Cosmos because I’ve had success with that in the city (they’re about 6" high so far so not sure if they’ll flower by mid-jul). I like the look of Salvia, Clematis and some double knockout roses but the area is just shy of full sun. I think the Clematis would do ok because the higher up the house you go, the sunnier it is. Would it be too shady for salvia?
The other area is totally different…. full sun, very rocky. There’s periwinkle growing there now. Any suggestions for something slightly taller that would flower mid-jul?
I also should mention (or is it ask…?) that we’re near Hillsdale but all our plants seem to be much slower than everyone else. Even down the hill a mile or two into town and things are more advanced. Not sure if it’s because we’re shady and slightly higher or because we have rubbish soil…
I’d really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
