Has anyone had experience with skimmia. I picked it for my small, zone 6 city shade garden because I wanted winter interest and I think it’s one of the most beautiful shrubs in the winter. Regular and dwarf skimmia were planted in April. The regular skimmia seems to be ok but all 5 of the dwarf skimmias died. I had been told that they are tempermental. What experiences have others had?
My previous experience with Skimmia was in New York City, where it did very well and was spreading. (I was layering branches and then moving them a few feet over once they had rooted in.) I have read that on the East coast it does best in the mid-atlantic region. Skimmia likes moist soil, (the garden that I grew it had a drip sprinkler system.) Unfortunately it is too cold to grow it up here. What other experiences do people have?
