I usually boil a kettle (or 10) of water and pour it on the anthill, but this is no good where something desirable is growing, of course. I was fascinated, therefore, to see this article online about alterantive non-chemical approaches, from feeding them cornmeal to using baby powder to who knows what. Note: Just because it’s not a "chemical," suggestions like using pipe tobacco (loaded with Nicotine), as in this link, aren’t totally "safe" either so use discretion. There are many suggested here, and some (like moving one colony’s ants to another’s to start wars resulting in kill-offs) sound pretty good if they work. http://www.wikihow.com/Kill-Ants-Without-Pesticides
