The key to less-frequent watering and plant survival on hot, windy, exposed roofs: BIG pots, and good-quality potting soil. When I say big I mean like whiskey barrels and the like…big. That would be my main tip: don’t skimp on pot size. A few really big ones is better for root growth (and easier to care for) than a lot of small ones.
