had to remove a dying pine, leaving a serious hole in an important corner of my rather formal pool garden. i need something that will grow slowly and/or respond to pruning, with a strong vertical shape, 5 to 10 feet tall. It really should be a needled evergreen to go with the general design. what else? this spot is in DEEP shade, zone 5, and i need it yesterday! Taxus hicksii is an obvious choice but i’m not thrilled by them.
