Can I move some hydrangeas now? I have 4 that I inherited with our house last fall and I want to put them in a different place. I have no idea what kind they are. 3 are in the ground and 1 is in a pot. Can I move them now? They’ve already started pushing out new green leaves.March 26, 2010 at 1:16 am #29253AnonymousInactive
It’s probably not the ideal time to move them, and you will probably lose blooming this season, but I don’t think it will kill them. You didn’t mention how tall they are? A few years ago I moved three 5′ lilacs in April (zone 5) and they’ve done just fine.March 26, 2010 at 2:25 am #29256AnonymousInactive
They are about a foot to a foot and a half. One is in a pot, i think it definitely needs to come out. Not sure why it’s in a pot, from the previous owner of the house. I think they are going to get moved soon, I need their spot for something else.March 26, 2010 at 11:59 am #29258margaretKeymaster
I say go for it…what I find is that if I don’t do something when I have the time, it never gets done. They may hiccup as Johanna says, but sounds like your garden plans call for them to move from where they are, so onward, right?March 26, 2010 at 2:32 pm #29260AnonymousInactive
I like that answer! Hope to get them moved this weekend, but there are lots of seeds to start as well! Seed starting trumps digging any day in my book! :)
