I’m an urban-dweller, living in a Jersey City apartment with lovely south-facing windows and no outdoor space. I am so inspired by the suggestion on the AWTG page to try sprouting some garlic chives and bush basil in the winter. Does anyone have some other suggestions for what other edibles I could grow on my windowsill this winter? It would bring such cheer to the home—and the table. Practically speaking, would I need to provide any additional lighting (i.e., CFLs), and what kind of soil should I be using. (By the way, I’m a garden newbie, with no compost to speak of; see "no outdoor space" above, though I could probably raid my mother’s compost pile in PA.) Thanks for any suggestions! –Heather
