I grow my calla lilies directly in my water feature, a waterfall and stream. The "mother plant" has been in the waterfall for 3 years, literally growing among the stones and rocks without the benefit of anything from me, so any nutrients come from those that naturally happen in the water. The flowers have all grown perfectly, so all that comes to mind is something about your soil. Have it tested? Wish I could be more help.
