My hollyhocks were gorgeous until about 5 days ago -now they are the opposite of gorgeous. It’s our old friend rust, and my fault because I should have applied fungicide (I use sulphur) but I neglected to. Also, I think i’ve let them grow too close to each other. They are the old-fashioned singles, many colors. Here’s my problem- garden tour coming in a few weeks. if I cut them way down, thin the excess stalks and apply lots of sulphur will they look like anything at all? can’t pull them all out because it would break my heart.
