A good pair of gloves, a short handled digging fork and a strong back. Any spray that kills the weeds will also kill or at least damage the ivy. If you get at it in the first rainy days of spring before the weeds get hold you will have a better chance of getting them root and all, and keeping them at bay all year. Once the ivy covers the spots where the weeds where there should be less chance for re-infestation.
