I was at the nursery and saw the above cedar jumping out because of it’s bright gold color. The tag also referenced it as Golden Japanese Cedar. It says it will be 10′ tall by 5-6 ft wide but in researching it size varies greatly. Anyone grow it or have some info on it? It also seemed to have a bit of a weeping shape but some pictures I saw showed it more solid in shape.
I have planted an unnamed Cryptomeria japonica in Long Island, NY at my mother-in-law’s house. The eventual plan was to transplant it to my house upstate. It has really done well in LI and I’m not sure she wants to give it up now! I would suspect that ‘Sekkan Sugi’ will eventually become much larger than 10′. I think that the leaves will mature to a less weepy shape as well although I don’t know anything about that cultivar specifically other than the new growth is much brighter yellowy green than the deep forest green of the older growth.
