Re: lily beetles
I was very sad about losing all my lilies to beetles; I even bought Sevin, but freaked out when I read the label. So when I moved to NY, where they weren’t supposed to be having beetles yet but would soon, I did some research and found that lilium ‘Black Beauty’ was supposed to be somewhat beetle-resistant. So I planted some. I have since squashed a fair few beetles; I have them planted close to a path so I can examine them, and I squash the beetles and their eggs. I cannot say that this cultivar is more resistant; I doubt it, actually, because I think it’s my vigilance rather than their inherent resistance that has helped; but I have had a few lily blooms, and only a few holes in the leaves. The problem is that lilies, being tall, are not graceful planted handy for squashing.
