JOIN JOHN MICHELOTTI of Catskill Fungi and me (Margaret Roach) at my Copake Falls, NY, garden on April 21 to learn to grow mushrooms outdoors on wood. At this hands-on workshop we will inoculate logs with edible shiitake mushroom mycelium, the “roots” of fungi. Learn how to inoculate, store and take care of the logs, initiate fruiting, harvest mushrooms, and prevent pests.
John will also explain other mushrooms beyond shiitake that we can grow ourselves and how—such as wine caps on wood chips and more. Come prepared with your mushroom questions. Take home a log you inoculate yourself and all the knowledge and resources to create your own home mini mushroom farm.
There will be limited spawn, mushroom-related books, and even John’s Catskill Fungi mushroom extracts available for purchase.
The workshop will be repeated in each of two half-day sessions: 9:30 to noon, or 1:30 to 4 PM.
Refreshments will be served: baked goods and coffee/tea in the morning session and cookies/beverages in the afternoon. Reserve a spot using the Eventbrite “widget” below, or at this link.
Note: Ticket purchasers will be sent instructions on precise location and parking details.
Wear outdoor work clothes and bring garden gloves if you like to use them.
We will proceed rain or shine, unless truly horrendous storms!
So jealous! But Montana is a bit far away and we are moving in May back to North Carolina, so don’t think it would be feasible! But growing mushrooms is something I have on my to-do list.
