This was my introduction to winterberry hollies, and remains a favorite. The large plants, to about 10 feet high and nearly as wide, literally drip with profuse large red fruit each fall and winter. What I particularly love is how the fruit is arranged on the stems: in spiraling patterns, like it’s swirling up and down each twig. A beauty, from Robert Simpson in Indiana, the king of winterberry breeding. As you can see, foliage goes yellow before it drops.
