One of Indiana nurseryman Robert Simpson’s older varieties, the 1960s cultivar called ‘Afterglow’ has bright orange fruit on upright 10-by-10-foot shrubs. As with the other non-red hollies, I find that the birds don’t eat from ‘Afterglow’ in their first feeding frenzy of the season, leaving all the off-colors for later.
