Sometimes you need what my best gardening friends call “a big evergreen blob” to fill out an area, and the ‘Boule de Neige’ (’Ball of Snow’) rhodie is just that, and super-tough to boot. An old cultivar, from the 1870s, it’s bone-hardy and a prolific bloomer in May, even in substantial shade. Like I said, though, I don’t grow it for the blooms, but for the blob of about 5 feet high and wide. Rare Find Nursery has it (see sources), and I suspect your local nursery does, too.

I love white flowers! My Cunningham’s White rhodies have just completed a gorgeous showing of blooms. I am now picking off the spent ones as the new growth for next year is appearing.
