I am partial to big shrubs (like many of the Viburnums) and also to Japanese maples…although I could go on and on about woody things I like. A post on Viburnums: http://awaytogarden.com/think-fall-yes-fall As for vase shape, I find when I have a particular space issues or desired "look" I just go shopping, and really scour the best nurseries locally for the right specimen. If you need instant coverage over a decent-sized area, it’s going to cost, of course…and your choices will also be limited, as there will be fewer specimens of each thing that meet your desired specs.
