I started a new asparagus bed from seed this past spring and it has done wonderfully! But I’m not quite sure what to do with it for the winter. I’ve read that I’m supposed to cut it down, but how much and when? I live in zone 7 in South Carolina so frost is still a ways off for me, but I want to be prepared.

Nothing special is needed to prepare asparagus for winter. Just wait until you do your late winter/early spring clean up to cut down the foliage.

Thanks for the help! I went ahead and cut it back about a month and a half ago. I think I probably should have waited a bit later- it’s been growing back but I just keep lopping it off when it does. It’s been a warm fall here- 50 degrees at night this week!
