Thanks, Rebecca, for your nice words. I have done it in early spring but best of all is early fall, I think, as the plant is winding down and ready to go dormant. The ground doesn’t freeze till November or December, so if you do it in September there is still plenty of time for the roots to get settled in a bit. So like second half of September onward–through mid-October? M.
