If you can get a tomato plant and some basil (or start basil from seeds even; too late for tomatoes from seed) then it’s not too late. July 4th or thereabouts in the North is the cutoff to my mind for getting tomatoes in the ground, or pots. Plan on using a really big tub like a whiskey barrel if you have no place in the ground. It could hold a tomato, several parsley and a couple of basils. Veggies need sun, too…so plan accordingly. If you had a row in the ground you can still do bush beans, through the end of next month. You’re not out of time by any means. A big whiskey barrel can also hold a cuke (bush stye) or zucchini (bush style) and some herbs. Be inventive.
