If ‘Madeline Hill’ really is hardy I would unpot it at the end of the year and heal it into a protected spot in the garden. Plant it a little high so the roots don’t sit in water and maybe give it a loose burlap wrap. I think winter in the garage would be too hard for it unless you gave it plenty of light and kept it just barely moist.
