One of the first primulas to open for me is Primula veris, the cowslip, which blooms with the peak of my Narcissus. I particularly like the brick-red bicolors like this one. Cowslips are easy, tough little perennials that are great at the edges of shrubberies and in between larger, later perennials—kind of a place-holder to add some delicate color (and hope!) while you’re waiting for the bigger things to awaken.
